Texas Republicans likely handed over voters to Democrats supporting women’s rights as the 2024 election year dawns near with the recent actions toward strict abortion laws in the state.

    I would believe this if this state didn’t immediately re-vote in Greg Abbott and his chucklefuck cronies even after their disgusting laws came into play.

      In 2020 we had about 66% turnout. In 2022 it was under 50%. The Governor, Lt. Governor, and Attorney General are always offset from the Presidential election here. So I expect we won’t see any investment in the gubernatorial race unless we have enough turnout to go Democratic in a presidential race. Abbott won by a big enough margin in 2022 I don’t think it’s worthwhile to get a breakdown of native vs transplants. Republican voters showed up and Democratic voters didn’t.

        Seriously, this is how it always is in Texas. The Democrats here don’t bother to get off their lazy asses.

      I can’t remember where the poll is, but I saw a breakdown of that vote by recent moves to Texas vs. established Texans (5+ years), and 57% of the recent moves voted for Abbott, and 52% of established Texans voted for Beto. Coupled with the Republican voters in Texas, it was more than enough to swing that election (plus, turnout was abysmal at, like, 24% overall, iirc).

      Now, a sizeable number of those recent moves came from rural California. Texas was their Conservative dystopia they wanted to live in; but notice I said “was.” Florida has become the new dystopia for Conservatives, so I think Texas Republicans’ days are numbered if they keep on this anti-bodily-autonony kick.

        Yes, we do have the reputation of being a “non-voting state”, which mad sucks. And Abbott & Friends aren’t exactly trying to make elections more accessible for their citizens either, because they know that would harm their cause.

        And there was that influx of people moving here for the cheap housing, yes. Every time I saw people going on their “DoNt CaLiFoRnIa My TeXaS” rants, I was like “Its…it’s your people moving here from Cali!” And yeah, I truly believe that in 2022, Pudding Fingers and Piss Baby were taking nods from one another, seeing who could up the ante in being more hateful. I do believe a significant number of Conservative people chose Florida as an alternative to Texas.

        That being said, I myself am a Texas transplant via Uncle Sam, and I resisted changing my statehood to Texas for years until the 2022 mid-terms where I finally claimed Texas residency, simply so I could vote for Beto. Then again, it was all for naught because I’m a Blue voter in a Blue city, so it doesn’t really help.

        I can only hope that we get a huge blue wave of representatives voted inacross the country this coming year. I hope Colin Allred can beat out Ted Cruz for sure. I feel hopeless and jaded, but I’m not 100% cynical yet.

          I don’t believe we’ll have a representative legislature, or congressional delegation, until we can flip the state-wide offices. So blue voters in blue cities absolutely matter to get us there. We have to turn out in such high numbers to overcome the gerrymandering.

            Oh shit yes absolutely! I didn’t mean it to come off as if I’d quit voting, there will definitely be 2 blue votes coming out of the AquaTofana household every single election, we even go to the local ones!

            Just…man. I wish our address was in at least one of the purple districts on the edge of the county instead of the solid blue district we’re in right now. I want to spread it out!
