But if you look at the charts! Every developed nation started to deindustrialise at some point, it’s a mystery why it happened, and it’s a mystery why China began to industrialise around the same time, but on average every single developed country will deindustrialise because the charts and data say they will!
This is a really uncomfortable question for people who keep claiming China is just capitalist. If it was then why are we not seeing the same thing happen there that we see happen in every capitalist country. Weird!
You’re giving them way too much credit here. Majority of crakkkers have no deeper analysis than China bad. You need to actually think before you get cognitive dissonance
I think he was talking about Ultras there, who spend a lot of time declaring China “Capitalist and Imperialist” because they…have a large economy and give out loans to other nations? Because Deng was a wicked witch who cast an evil capitalism spell on China?
I guess your statement still applies, they may have a lot to say, but their analysis is no deeper than the average liberal’s, just in the opposite direction.
good point
The world is a truely mysterious place unless you apply basic a materialist analysis
he’s here to help
People like Ha-Joon Chang point out some of the problems but even mild criticisms like his are essentially ignored.
I thought that books of Ha-Joon Chang may be a good entry point and eye-opener for libs, but as you wrote, it is maybe true only for the least-orthodox and those swinging ones 😒
My take away from this thread is that a ton of “neoliberal orthodoxy” is just economists trying to explain policy decisions as being like forces of nature, out of the hands of government, and China proving that a government can totally do something different if it actually wants to.
So much of their field is devoted to trying to explain how economic activity is actually not due to the labour theory of value and things have value due to like…wizards casting spells to make them valuable or something.
good
honestly if they make it to the world socialism stage, china might have a permanent golden age
