Some interesting sound design. Grungy, though more in a Photoshop collage sense than a Seattle-sound sense. I’ll have to listen to this one more.
I’m reminded slightly of Kero Kero Bonito’s “Time And Place”, though they don’t really sound alike.
This is less interesting to me than her previous album Glitch Princess. This sits more firmly under the alternative rock unbrella unlike Glitch Princess which was experimental glitchy pop.
So maybe check this out if you DIDN’T like her previous album haha
That’s a change up I wasn’t expecting. I’ll give this a listen, but now I’m almost expecting to be disappointed lol
Glitch Princess felt awkwardly transitional: them abandoning the Cuushe-esque dreampop aesthetic of Serotonin II and their EPs and setting out for a more direct sound, replacing reverb with distortion, and flirting with PC Music-style hyperpop though shying away from its full maximalism. In Softscars, they seem to have more of a feeling for this sound, whilst also leaning into the 90s grunge/alternative retro aesthetic, à la Beabadoobee.
