NOTE: the idea that Caesar committed genocide is a deeply divisive issue that delves into questions of intent, ethnicity vs. political allegiance, whether the concept is even applicable in the Classical world, and evidence, all of which can be argued one way or another.

    God, I don’t want to get into this, but I can never let things go. Genocide includes the intent to exterminate a nation in whole or part, not just “I killed a lot of people in the course of a war”. If ‘killed a lot of Gauls’ is enough to qualify for genocide, Vercingetorix and numerous other Gallic leaders were committing genocide against their ‘own’ people at the same time, and in opposition to Caesar.
