Explanation: In the Late Roman Republic, the ‘Populares’ were reformers who sought to champion the cause of the people against the ultrawealthy and traditionalists (the ‘Optimates’). Of course, due to the Roman Republic being a very plutocratic government, invariably any such populare politicians who managed to find success were, themselves, not exactly working class men!
