Google Maps will soon start to prioritise safer, quieter roads when giving cycling instructions for journeys within London – thanks to an information sharing partnership with Transport for London (TfL).

I cycle in London a lot, and the improvement to cycling infrastructure over the last 20 years has been extraordinary in many boroughs

I just wish outer boroughs would take it more seriously. I have a lot of bike lanes in my zone 5 borough, but they start out of nowhere, go for a short while and then end suddenly. So on paper we have loads of cycling infrastructure here, but in practice it’s useless and it’s better and safer to just ride on the road in traffic.

Do cyclist get hit and killed daily in the UK, or is this another unique American problem? I’m terrified to ride here.
