It always amazed me how the Western history classes teach this. They act as if it was a normal series of events that led to this. They bombed two cities killing around 200k people. And the whole Western world acts as if they just had to do it.
Probably because they bombed even more cities and killed even more people shortly before. Not to mention they’ve bombed even more cities and killed even more people in Korea few years later, and then even more at Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia.
So they don’t even have to rationalize aerial mass murder, since it’s just completely normal way of waging war for them - they just adress the atomics, which is not really very big step up from the firestorm in Tokyo, destruction of literally everything in North Korea or the poisoning of Vietnam.
And of course being libs they could not spare us their hypocrisy - they do all of this while being shocked by the events like bombing of Guernica or London. Imagine what would they say if any socialist country actually done any strategic bombing…
You have no idea how many Yankee “leftists” I’ve seen today going “Murica fuck yeah, we bombed those fuckers”
Well, since you’re so ecstatic about bombing civilians for their government’s actions, I say it’s only reasonable that NYC gets nuked.
Oh, no! Punishing civilians would be unfair, if it were to happen to you. I see, I see.
So, liberals’ justification is that bombing Japanese civilians was necessary to end the war by forcing Japanese leadership to reckon with the carnage. Utterly disgusting, but there it is.
What of the fact that 20% of the victims of the nuclear bombs were Koreans forcefully relocated to Japan? An ethnic minority, an enslaved group, who made up less than a fraction of a fraction of 1% of Japan’s total population, accounted for approximately 20% of the bomb’s victims! Japanese leadership didn’t give a single fuck about Koreans! Is the carnage still “rational”? Was it still justified?
The 80% non-Koreans didn’t deserve it either. Nobody deserves nuclear holocaust. It was not necessary to end the war. It was the U.S. flexing on the socialist bloc. My point is only to illustrate the amazing stupidity of imperial apologists’ rationalization of the bombings (as well as to inform any comrades reading about this forgotten tragedy visited upon the Korean people).
