Got myself into a bit of a pickle, same as basically every year, where I probably need to make something for my grandma but am out of ideas.

So I thought a thread about what sort of gifts we’re all making might be fun but also might kick my brain into gear ideas-wise 😄

My mam has requested I sew her a draught excluder for her living room door, which is a sewing project so simple even I presumably can’t muck it up. But so far I’ve got no real knitting plans beyond a vague “make some tiny last-minute baby stuff for new parent friends”.

Dazzle me with your festive knitting plans!

This was my plan as well until family started doing whatever the text message equivalent of puppy dog eyes is at me! Curses.

I knit a matching set of hat, mittens and a thick scarf for me and my boyfriend this Christmas, I can’t wait for him to open them up and see that we can match! I think another cute idea could be knee socks for a family member who might feel chilly at home during winter, I know my mom preferred something that covered more leg since it helps warm up the blood flow better. I have not yet tackled a sweater project but a sweater or cardigan could be a valued gift too. Another good idea for winter would be a throw blanket although that plan would need a bit more time to prepare for, haha.

Omg I would like to respectfully request a photo of you two all kitted up in your matching cozies sometime shortly after Christmas, please. That is so cute!

Actually really like the knee socks idea for my grandma but I’d need to make them out of thicker yarn both for speed purposes and also for her ease of getting them on and off, hmm, thanks that might be a goer!

Scarves and hats haha, as easy and boring as possible. If I knew how I would love to make little stuffed animals or knit ornaments. I love the cute little animal ornaments, with little sweaters and scarves 😭

Can’t go wrong with the classics! Unfortunately both my mam and grandma are officially well-stocked for knitted scarves and hats by this point 😂

If you do decide to give the ornaments a whirl I’m sure they’ll end up being much simpler than you think. It’s all just following the instructions one stitch at a time. And of course, you have us for moral support if you get stuck with anything… 😄

I appreciate the encouragement ❤️ one stitch at a time-- putting it that way maybe I can haha. I hope you find something you’d like to knit this year! :)

My LYS released a kit to knit the tiniest sweater ornaments, I thought it was stinkin’ cute, I’ll probably try that next year, because I already had my gifts planned. My usual strategy for the holidays is to gift the same thing for friends, coworkers, acquaintances and such. Usually somehting handmade and a little bit customised. I put more thought on birthday presents. Last year I made tiny succulent planters from coffe mugs.

This year I got some keychains with initials from Aliexpress and I plan to embellish them with macrame and maaaaybe add a tiny amigurumi figure for close friends.

I generally don’t knit Christmas gifts 🫣. I don’t start early enough and I don’t have the bandwidth. End of year is stressful enough at work herding grown ass adults to complete their annual competency assessments before 12/31 because everyone puts it off instead of working on them throughout year.

I typically give out apple butter or jam and handmade soap.

I doubt that I can make anything in time for Christmas, but I’m tempted to at least knit a tiny vest for a certain fox using scraps from the toddler cowl from last week. Perhaps, if I’m really productive, even a pair of shorts. So kind of a Christmas gift for a plush :)

@thegiddystitcher fingerless mittens mostly. They’re not widely available in shops and people who work from home but want to cut heating costs really appreciate them

I definitely need to get on with some of these for myself tbh, exactly for working-at-home purposes, they really are very handy and a really cool gift. Starting to lose track of who’s had what gifts over the years but I think everyone sadly has at least one pair of mitts from me already 😂
