The feed shows posts with - 35 votes. Why? Clearly the crowd says it’s garbage, so can it be hidden?

This is an issue you should raise with the lemmy devs and not in this community as they are the ones who will be able to fix it.
Good suggestion. It would also be simpler, it seems, to implement users’ blocking of entire instances in the client.
