But why the decision to ban Kei trucks from Rhode Island streets? Because the DMV claims they don’t meet Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (FMVSS).

Weird safety standards.
They don’t care about pedestrians (see Cybertruck)?
See any truck
The cyber truck is safe for pedestrians. Can’t hit a pedestrian if it never leaves the repair bay for recalls.
The EU takes pedestrians (and cyclists) in account for safety standards, the US doesn’t.
How do SUVs fit in that standard in EU?
You basically need to design the car so pedestrians bounce over the hood instead of going under. So you can still to an SUV, but can’t really do a Ford F150 style front.
But the F150/Ranger and esp. RAM Trucks exist here
The safety requirements this vehicle doesn’t meet could easily be regarding hood design; highly studied and regulated to minimize pedestrian injury such as sharp angles or being pulled under the hood.
I’m convinced the only thing lawsuits are waiting for is the accidents where they maim pedestrians. CT is a disaster for Tesla.
