I work in security at a northern michigan ski/golf resort. The resort spans 2 properties and has a combined total of roughly 3000 acres. As you might expect, it can be a tough job at times, with drunks, noise complaints, safety issues, etc but wtf do you do when your job is mostly just tough for simply feeling “creepy”? There’s a chunk of buildings on the main property that have wigged me out since day one of my employment. The buildings in question are the restaurants (3 in one building) at the top of one of our ski hills, the daycare (located at the top of another one of our ski hills), both our ski services and ski rental buildings (both buildings are located at the bottom of one of our ski hills), the cafe, and our convention center, along with our shop on the north property (also creeps me out), which sits amidst 4 massive golf courses. It started with me hearing a mans voice in the convention center that sounded nothing like any of my coworkers there with me, then a few weeks later a loud BANG I heard when patrolling the convention center one night alone. At first, I thought nothing of it until one slow night when I decided to do some digging into the resorts past. It turns out that at the time, there were 4 deaths on or associated with the resort that i could find either through google or word of mouth. The original owner was dead and apparantly “shows up” in the convention center, rarily. One skier died on the bottom of one of our ski hills (the one located by the daycare), one death was an employee who worked ski patrol (they have an office in the cafe that rests between our ski hills) that was off site, and one was a guest who died on one of our courses over on the second property due to hundreds of bee stings after hitting a ball into a thicket of trees. These areas creeped me out already, but now they’re even creepier. Then, a weird stretch of deaths started occurring, starting last September 20th, in the restaurant building, which I was part of. A guest choked to death, and we couldn’t save him. Then, a dishwasher died in the breakroom of the building, another employee died off property who worked in the spa of our main hotel, and then another employee, who was a cook in the restaurant building, suddenly died off property. Each death occurred almost once every month. Is this place cursed? Haunted? Both? I don’t know, to be honest. The entire place just creeps me out now. I don’t know where else to put this on Lemmy, so here I am. Is this shit weird, or am I overthinking it?
well, unless the deaths were suspicious, you could pretty much discount the ones that occurred off-site, and things happening relatively close together is often just a coincidence. Seems like a pretty large property, and with lots of guests and lots of employees it doesn’t seem unusual to have a ‘string’ of odd occurrences occasionally. As far as feeling creepy, there’s a good argument for the acoustics of a building adding to it’s creepiness…and once you’re creeped out about one thing it’s not all the unusual for that association to carry over into other areas even if the similarities that associate them together aren’t immediately obvious.
That’s all true. I get downvoted for it alot, but I do believe in the paranormal, however I debunk everything I can before jumping to that ship. What you say could definitely be valid thing at the CC at least. There’s a huge ass banquet hall in the center of the building. Although, I will say… the main property pro shop, abandoned golf academy building, the lodge, the inn, vehicle maintenance, and north maintenance building (2nd property), along with all our halfway houses, all feel fine, not creepy at all despite being further in the boonies (I’m talking in the woods, pitch black at night). It’s worth noting that the buildings I mentioned that feel creepy are the only places like that on the entire property(s). Kinda weird.
I want you to continue to post updates to this. It sounds like it might be an excellent basis for a modern detective noir film.
I’m not sure what to update, but I’ll try? Maybe do a little ghost hunting shit maybe? Spooky stuff like the loud bang doesn’t happen much. It’s pretty rare, but it does happen. Or maybe, tin foil hats, there is a killer at my work? Maybe it got too hot, so they backed off which could be why it’s been chill lately. Although, I’ve also had weird unexplained shit happen more frequently in the security building which houses me, and me only at night.

Have you considered interviewing the original owner on this topic? They would presumably know the property well, and might be able to provide some insight.
Alternatively, have you considered that you may be experiencing a psychotic mirage? :)
Either way, please keep us posted!
The OG owner died back in 2009. He is definitely dead. Maybe “was” is the incorrect word here, lol. I appreciate the tongue in cheek response of yours, though, haha
I’ve toyed with the idea of taking a slow night to do an EVP session in the Convention Center. Maybe I should just do it!
Do the buildings have carbon monoxide detectors? Are they old buildings with old electrical systems? You said it’s a ski resort, so I’d expect some banging and weird noises as the temperature of the buildings fluctuate. Portable electric/magnetic field detectors exist. Maybe portable carbon monoxide detectors too. These things can be measureable and often feel like ghosts. Rule them out. Then maybe introduce yourself to the lifeless guests and they’ll leave you alone. If none of that pans out. Read Stephen King’s The Shining. Real life is rarely as scary as Stephen King.
Well, we are responsible for upkeep on the monoxide detectors; they are all up to date and they’re all good, no issues there, whuch means no leaks. The buildings are newish and in good shape; they do settle, but that’s a different sound than something violently slamming on a panic bar. I haven’t been scheduled in awhile, but I plan on looking into it when I get back.
Well then, say hi to the ghosts for me, just don’t sit down for a drink with them. Do read that book if you haven’t already; it’s one of my favorites and none of the movies do it justice.
Also consider ultra sonic frequencies we can’t detect audibly but can still make us uneasy.

I’m really sorry but I read this as a customer died and then an appliance broke down.
Seriously though stay safe.
Lol that’s kinda funny tbh. Nah, not an appliance. The dishwasher was an employee, that’s my bad
