It costs over four thousand dollars to renounce one’s citizenship, plus the cost of a one-way ticket, plus having necessary infrastructure for oneself (a home, a job, proper paperwork) set up in the country one is fleeing to before they land. More than half of us can’t just shit that money out of nowhere, otherwise a lot of us-- myself included-- would have fucked off already.
