A team of researchers from the United States and the United Kingdom assessed health outcomes in a cohort of nearly 10 million patients hospitalized for acute myocardial infarction (AMI).
They reported, “Cannabis use was associated with lower risks of cardiogenic shock, acute ischemic stroke, cardiac arrest, PCI [percutaneous coronary intervention] use, and in-hospital mortality.”
The conclusion is consistent with those of other studies finding that heart disease victims with a history of cannabis consumption possess greater in-hospital survival rates compared to controls. Other studies have similarly reported increased in-hospital survival rates among cannabis consumers suffering from cancer, COPD, gastroparesis, pancreatitis, HIV, burn-related injuries, traumatic brain injuries, and various other types of severe trauma.
Strange, whenever I smoke weed I feel like my heart is gonna burst through my chest
Switch to edibles. Smoking anything will raise your blood pressure and lower your O2 levels, which will make your heart work harder.
It’s just the weed. It makes people’s heart race.
Hell, years ago I read you have a 4x higher chance of having a heart attack for the first hour after smoking weed.
It’s not just smoking, it’s vaping, too, and even edibles.
In my personal experience, the dose matters. If I get super high off of one hit, that’s when my heart races.
Interesting. I would be interested in learning more about this. I’ve always thought weed lowered heart rate and made you slow and groggy.
Definitely not all strains. Some weed makes you very energetic.
My heart rate stays the same but I think it lowers my blood pressure because if I’ve been sitting / squatting on the ground and get up I often almost pass out. This never happens when I’m sober.
what if the key was, instead of panicking like i imagine would be pretty easy, i just go, “man, i must be pretty high rn, lemme relax for a sec…”
