It’s worth noting that the currently widespread variants are generally less severe than the earlier ones. I would certainly still avoid going out if I was sick, and would probably wear a mask if I thought I might be around someone vulnerable, but I’m overall much less concerned about actually potentially dying from the thing.

Are the other long term consequences like organ damage and cognitive impairment less likely as well?
