QUITO, Sept 16 (Reuters) - Ecuador’s President Daniel Noboa will seek changes to the constitution to allow foreign military bases to be established in the Andean country, he said on Monday via a post on X.
Noboa was born in the US and is a US citizen. He also received his undergraduate degree at a US college, and received his masters degree from Harvard.
He is an American businessman sent to infiltrate Equador under the guise of being Equadorian due to his heritage.
Noboa is american actually.
On the one hand I have to wonder how much of a pathetic comprador one has to be for something like this. On the other hand, it shows that USA has not given up “their backyard”.
Unless the base turns out to be Chinese or something, in which case I will look very silly. But given that the article itself mentions USA having a base there in the past, it’s reasonable to guess where this is going
I live here, there’s no doubt he wants US bases.
How are the people taking it? Perhaps in your immediate circle?
Middle class people here are unfortunately pretty politically ignorant and tend to support whatever the overwhelmingly right wing news says so they tend to support it. The people I organize with are very opposed to it.
Thanks!
the one thing latin american oligarchs are good at is being shameless compradores.
