Here in Balkans too many people unironically believe that planes fart some smoke poison or whatever from contrails to make new diseases which is why there are supposed new viruses in Balkans and whatnot. Supposed ‘‘proof’’ for this are some random scientists and labs in Croatia, Hungary and Poland which ‘‘studied’’ these chemicals…

They won’t shut up about it, what the hell are they talking about and how to put an end to this bullshit? This population went insane I swear…

its a mere product of the lack of quality scientific education in capitalist countries, as are most conspiracy theories. nobody understands what a vapor trail is, so it must be planes releasing a mind-control gas into the atmosphere or something.

these conspiracy theories are often woven together under larger unifying ones (new world order, Qanon/deepstate, etc), and this one is part of the NWO thing where the chemtrails are allegedly part of the effort to drug humanity into submission, along with like fluoride toothpaste and aspartame and vaccines. again, it’s all just severe lack of scientific literacy, usually because of substandard capitalist education in the united states and europe. even if the theory were to be true, dispersing gas into the atmosphere via plane trails is an incredibly inefficient way of doing so i think.

I’d add that it’s not just a lack of quality scientific education, but an intentionally-taught distrust of academics and intellectuals. At least here in the US, there’s a trend in politics and media to encourage distrust and contempt for scientists. Typically the ringleaders are Christian fundamentalists who dislike scientists whose research validates concepts that contradict their teachings, and believe that Christian “scientists” who concoct conspiracy theories are unfairly shunned and censored by a cabal of corrupt, godless scientists. Most of the anti-science crowd here supports older, discredited sciences that align with Christian theology - at least the racist, colonial-settler flavor of Christianity.

to complement your point, all conspiracy theories are antisemitic in origin.

all these nonsense of secret group that runs the world is the international jew. after the defeated of facism being openly antisemitic was not good, so they got rebranded as time went on.

not surprising all believer and groups formed around then are far right, like qanon

I had someone telling me it was a mind-control chemical they were spraying to pacify the people once. That’s about the closest I’ve ever come to talking to anyone that took this theory seriously.

Had a coworker talk to me about Chemtrails and it was mind control blah blah. I was like you live in a country that illegally invaded like 3 countries in our lifetime and your thinking about plane exhaust. That shit has to be working.

To be fair to them, all conspiracy theories have a grain of truth. Here in the US the government has tested biological and chemical weapons on civilians. Polluting factories and stuff also poison regular (non-white) people. They’ve tested nuclear weapons near people without their knowledge. MKULTRA and the Tuskegee experiment existed. The sad part is that the mainstream conspiracy theories distract from class consciousness. We know about this stuff, but we have a better framework than “da joos.” It’s funny that culture wars and conspiracy theories are themselves conspiracies. I’ve heard if you tell conspiracy theorists to do their own research on that then they may be de-radicalized.

They don’t even need a conspiracy theory to hate the trails The planes have massive carbon emissions.
