btw this is an edit of a cartoon that came out in October 1913, e.g. see this example in The Day Book of Chicago. I love the fact that he’s saying “Punk!” in the original. See [email protected] for more about this character.
It would be great if they didn’t limit early voting to today and Monday, 8-5, at one location for a county with a million residents. Also, it’s a 30 minute drive.
Farming communities have well-staffed early voting locations, but not the metro.
Funny how that works.
I voted this morning. An hour and fifteen minutes in central Ok. Worth it.
Yeah I voted yesterday, here in my “battleground state”. The wait was less than 5 minutes.
Real question: Is there a benefit to voting early? In my state it’s way more annoying, Ohio, and I have plenty of time on election day. It feels like there’s a big push for it and I think it’s good that it’s an option but I don’t see the benefit overall unless you’re worried about not being able to vote on election day for whatever reason.
Yeah, there are a couple benefits:
- what if you plan to vote on a certain day, but then there’s a problem like illness, car breaks down, work or family emergency, etc. If you were planning to vote early, you still have a chance.
- if people try to suppress the vote, it’s harder because they’d have to do so over several Early Voting days and there’d be more chance to counter them
- it puts less pressure on the system and increases throughput. Sometimes machines just break down normally, or there are supply shortages, and if it’s the last day then you might have people waiting in line for hours.
- Finally I think from a campaign perspective, you’re more likely to tell your friends that you voted early and suggest they do the same (or even that you contact the campaign and get involved somehow)
Reason number one is, by itself, all the reason anyone should need. I voted yesterday, and feel very relieved.
Cool thanks, like I said I’m happy to have the option. Voting should be easy, painless, and as accessible as possible. It just feels like there’s a huge push for it and for me personally I’m not worried about voting on the day. I appreciate the answer though. Some things I hadn’t thought about.
