I think I understand the spirit of your question, but the way you’ve worded it suggests that the law is immutable and/or that lawbreakers are necessarily evildoers. I interpret the question as “without incarceration, what do we do about those who do harm to others”. To that I would answer that we need institutions and programs that provide various types of care, support, and protection to people and that those who cause harm and do not provide restitution to their victims lose access to those institutions and programs. For example, if a child molester’s house burns down, the fire department would not be expected to try and save them. If it was arson then the arsonist might only get fined for creating an environmental hazard and putting adjacent buildings at risk. The lack of a carceral system would make funding available for the above programs and institutions.

If you would not have called Rhodesia or Apartheid South Africa the good guys then you should not consider Israel to be the good guys either.

Maybe. I don’t like Elon or Trump, but I wouldn’t begrudge anyone for entering a raffle for some of Elon’s money.

Neither. There’s plenty of room and resources here on Earth. I think it’s fine to do space exploration and even have research bases on moons and other planets, but I just don’t see the imperative for colonization.

Pretty sure they had similar things to say about Bush-Cheney 2004, but now look. The Harris campaign enthusiastically accepted Cheney’s endorsement. I think they all need to go in the contraption, but liberals have no credibility.

It’s probably better to use a space heater where and when you need the heat. That central heating kit is basically the same thing, but it’s using more electricity providing heat to the entire home, including the rooms you aren’t using. Meanwhile, with Harris’s enthusiastic acceptance of Dick Cheney’s endorsement, there’s a resurgent fascism within the Democrats that these normies are happily ignoring. That guy did more to expand American fascism than Trump even promises. Therefore, this election isn’t really about totalitarianism versus democracy. That’s another reason why the anticipatory obedience accusation isn’t relevant. It would have also been anticipatory obedience to endorse Harris.

WaPo could certainly have done worse. It’s not unreasonable to expect that a billionaire might look after a newspaper like a rare classic car or other vanity purchase, that he would be content to keep it running nicely even if it’s ostensibly a poor investment.

I just do not understand this worldview that the billionaires are supposed to have protected journalism, let alone served as an important bulwark against fascism. It was already game over if that’s the case.

Well, these and other injuries against journalists and journalism aren’t new, but the coverage and outrage that I would have expected these and other outlets to produce has been relatively weak. Doesn’t seem like there’s much left standing to collapse.

I just try to be concise when I can. Either these papers only just started serving their owners’ material interests a few days ago or the outrage over the non-endorsements is contrived, irrational, and/or self-important; an embarrassing freak-out.

These papers have been privately owned by billionaires for years.

When I think of journalism collapsing, I think of the persecution of Julian Assange or the targeting of journalists in Gaza. The blocking of editorial boards’ endorsements seems trivial in comparison.

I don’t have anything especially helpful to share, but maybe it’s not so widely known that anyone can run their own ActivityPub instance and avoid some of the collateral damage caused by other admins.
