I didn’t vote for them, I voted for another third party candidate whose less cozy with putin since I live in California and due to our fucked up electoral system my vote for president doesn’t matter. If I was voting in a state that mattered I’d vote for Harris for harm reduction. I’m just tired of all the people on here blaming stein for Harris lack of support among progressives and Arabs instead of Harris for running a campaign that alienated them.
Their politics are the same as all the other green parties, actually address the climate crisis, defund the military and end forever wars, and implement some basic social democracy like single payer Healthcare. They can’t do any of this because they can’t get into power due to the electoral system, but that’s not there fault.
What are they supposed to do in between elections? The only time people care about politics and the only time it matters is during elections. Trying to build the party in off years is mostly a waste of time since people will just ignore you or forget about you by the time the election comes around.
Have you been to a protest or talked to pro-Palestinian voices. The demand has always been to stop weapons shipments to Israel, even before October 7th. This isn’t moving the goal posts, the goal posts have been there for decades, it’s just both parties have and continue to ignore them.
And his current vp refused to endorse him for his first term.
I think you may have misunderstood, I’m talking about there campaign for green supporters, not Trump supporters. They thankfully have learned a bit since 2016 and aren’t just dismissing potential Trump supporters and have made overtures to them like copying his immigration stance. They are dismissing green supporters and have offered them very little while constantly bashing stein and any one who supports her as unserious and naive.
That’s not what I said, I said democrats are treating stein supporters like they did Trump supporters in 2016. Thanks for showcasing that by just calling them dumb without putting forward anything positive about the Harris campaign.
I also didn’t say I voted for stein, if I was in a state that mattered I’d hold my nose and vote for Harris because I know Trump will be far worse. I want Harris to win I’m just mad that she’s making the same mistakes Hillary made in 2016 and is making this race way closer then it needs to be.
Still waiting for one of these hit pieces to actually compare steins policies, activist record, financial portfolio to Harris. This one seems to be she didn’t show up to our climate protest, but neither did Harris, and that she has a retirement account with fossil fuel shares in it like Harris and nearly every other American with a retirement account.
If the dems want to win over green party supporters and win the election they need to give them some reason to support her. Or they could just keep scolding there supporters , calling them naive and dumb while calling there candidate unserious , cause that worked out so well with Trump supporters in 2016.
So not Jill stein, and not an official in the green party. Further down there a quote from a kamala supporter that sums this up better:
“So she’s in trouble in Michigan, and it’s not because of Abandon Biden,” Zogby said. “It’s because Democrats abandoned Arab Americans. They stopped talking to them.”
The democrats took the Arab vote for granted in Michigan and are suffering the consequences and instead of changing there policies or accept that there policies are alienating voters and move on they just blame stein and pretend she’s pulling away potential Kamala voters from the camp, when in reality those people had already left the camp after being ignored and were just not going to vote for either.
Missed an opportunity to put one of vances quotes comparing him to a nazi before he decided his political career depended on teaming up with hitler.
Here’s one:
Trump makes people I care about afraid. Immigrants, Muslims etc. Because of that I find him reprehensible. God wants better of us
Vance on twitter , Oct 9 2016
EDIT: found the hitler one
I go back and forth between thinking Trump is a cynical asshole like Nixon…or that he’s America’s Hitler.
Vance in a message to a state senator in 2016
Seems a bit of an exaggeration to say everyone. The population at the time of the revolution was around 2.5 million. Of that maybe 500,000 were the land owning white male “patriots” that would support the revolution and of those maybe half read or were influenced by Thomas Payne so around 250,000. We tend to attach a lot of significance after the fact to the American revolution, and Adam’s, Payne etc. Since it spawned one of the greatest empires the world has ever known but at the time it was a relatively minor tax revolt.
this isn’t even a matter of the world in general was smaller back then, France at that time had a population of 28 million. Payne would go on to have less success in convincing everyone there on his ideas because the scale is just so much more massive. Same with modern day.
Also if enough people in California, NY, etc. Vote third party they may deny Harris a popular vote win while still allowing her to win in EC. This would both send a message about ignoring the left and might make it so Republicans start supporting getting rid of the electoral college too.
If both of the parties had an election stolen from them in less then a decade due to this dumb antiquated system maybe they’ll muster some political will to get rid of it.
You could also argue that without the rapid industrialization , payed for in Ukrainian blood, during the 1930s that stalin ordered the soviets wouldve lost the war. They at least wouldve probably had to retreat past the urals for a few years until the u.s. could ramp up and save them. Considering nazi plans for Russia, what hitler wouldve done with even those couple years would make holodomoor look like a picnic.
The soviets were barely able to hold back the nazis even after a huge boom in industrial productivity under the 5 year plans. If they had kept at there earlier pace of industrialization they wouldve been blown out of the water.
Stalin probably made a lot of strategic mistakes, but even if the soviets had a military genius leading them, if they don’t have the tanks and guns to back up those strategies they still wouldve lost.
Hitler killed more slavs and did it more wontanly then Stalin, and probably would’ve killed a lot more if Stalin hadn’t killed so many people to industrialize fast enough to take on Hitler.
Yeah you can choose the instance your profile is on or where your browsing but you can’t choose what instance a post was made on. If I see a meme on lemmy and want to share it with a friend who doesn’t know about lemmy depending on how I get the link it could either be for the cached version on my instance or the “actual” link on the instance where it was posted. It seems the default behavior on the web ui for the share button is to do the cached version but depending what client you use this can be different.
It makes adoption harder if when people actually do try to spread posts the person on the other end is afraid to click it.
The rape narrative has been massively overblown with little evidence backing it up besides racial bias against brown men. Did some women get sexualy assaulted, probably, was it widespread and systemic like the media is pushing, probably not. This isn’t to excuse the disgusting behavior of hamas on October 7th, just saying it’s more likely this guy sexualy assaulted Palestinians in an Israeli jail then his girlfriend being assaulted.
Just cause a member of a group did something bad to you doesn’t give you the right to abuse that group back. If that guy’s girlfriend was sexualy assaulted by a black person that doesn’t give him the right to yell slurs and push around black people on the street. This guy wasn’t yelling about hamas he was yelling at the idea of Palestine, that’s just straight up racism.
This is the type of republican endorsement Harris should be touting. His politics may be shit but at least he’s got broad popularity across the aisle , unlike Cheney and the five delusional people who still think his opinion is worth considering.
They are, and there within Russia too and are the ones telling Putin to wage this dumb war, capitalist oligarchs.
Brilliant except for:
America waits until Germany is about to fall over from sustained punching from France and Britain, then comes in and knocks it over the head with a barstool and pretends like it won the fight
Should be:
Germany starts wailing on France and Britain after Russia got knocked out, America made a bet on France and Britain winning and is afraid they might lose so joins in pulls Germany off them and helps to finish them off, then pretends like it won the fight.
Also could be good to help struggling cities and provide jobs. Probably can’t have some national security department in Detroit in case those damn Canadians try to invade, but maybe the USDA or something could bring a lot of well paying jobs there or any rust belt city.
Could also save the government some money because cost of living is low enough that hiring a white collar worker in Detroit is way cheaper then in the DC metro.
Health care reform is popular, expanding Medicare for dental and vision has 69% Republicans support, so does capping prescription drug prices and both of those have 75% support overall. Even more “out there” ideas like Medicare for all and eliminating medical debt have 62% support overall. It would be even higher if democrats actually campaigned on it and explained the benefits better. Health care reform is popular among people, it’s just not popular among the pharmaceutical and insurance companies that are giving millions to both sides.
