    Explanation: This is quite literally the outline of the Gallic Wars as related by Caesar in his Commentarii. Of course, the reality is more nuanced - even just by a cursory reading of the details Caesar gives - but we’re here to meme and dab on Gauls - and we’re all out of memes!

      I think the Commentarii are a great example of how historical sources are generally inaccurate in some way, both because everyone has some bias (particularly the elite with the leisure to do the writing) and because most authors had some agenda for writing (particularly the elite- I think I’m repeating myself), but can still be useful because of what’s written between the lines or can be extrapolated, e.g. by comparing them to other sources.

    Declaring pre-emptive war on Rome is a great idea. Those people are always out conquering someone and stealing their gods

    Rome is rich so popping over the border is free money. Go in a big enough group and you don’t even have to fight. It’s a sure thing guys, trust me.
