ID: photo of actor Sinbad in a neon pink frame, he has a wide slightly awkward smile, and has his hand out to gesture asking a question, above in pink neon letters it says: “Real talk!” and in the frame next to the photo it says in plain black text: “so are we going to overthrow the fucking government or what?”, with his signature bellow
Another feature to add to the wishlist in my head: alt text. Something Bluesky is getting right and something that I had never even considered before using the platform. Plus it’s a pretty cool little writing exercise.
Lemmy has alt text support and many web frontends and apps integrate that feature really well, I hope more folks start using it
Not half, it can be a real challenge sometimes! Thankfully there are online image to text converters that do that part, but some images can be surprisingly difficult to describe, especially if I’m low on spoons and or the brain fog is in (E: so I generally move on to an easier one lol)… 😬
Also happy to see alt text! Are you aware of Lemmy alt text / image description feature so that the image description does not have to be in the post body?
I am aware thanks, but like Zero22xx, I never see it used on lemmy, probably because of compatibility issues across instances/services and even versions of each.
I also personally prefer the ID being easily visible right under the image, in large text, rather than the small text you get from hovering over it. This way both those who use screen readers (who don’t have the issue with small hover text), and those who use the ID for other reasons all have it accessible right there. 😊
Might be a per app thing. Personally I don’t think I’ve come across any posts using alt text in the app that I’m using. Unless it’s just used very rarely around here still. If this is something that’s supported by Lemmy natively, I guess that users need to start pushing app developers to include it.

Yeah it’s definitely not showing any alt text in the app that I use (Eternity). And as much as I love the app, which is why I’m using it here again on Lemmy, ever since it was called Infinity for Reddit, I’ve found it a little hard to get feedback on bug reports or feature requests. But I’ll try mention it in the community soon, unless it’s something better to remind all devs of in the LemmyApps community.
Maybe more reason to switch back to Firefox Android anyway.
