A Surrey teenager who brought a loaded handgun to school because he "thought it would be cool to show people" is now serving a six-month custodial sentence in the community for the offence.
I feel this is often a cop out though. As a teen I knew right from wrong. And made choices , where some friends made bad choices and suffered tue consequences. But maybe there are kids that have terrible role models

The point isn’t that there should be no punishment, just that the punishment should not be so permanent.
We can condemn stupid things that children do while still giving them a chance to smarten up.
