    I seem to recall that step one if you get contacted by a debt collection company is to ask them to verify the debt and that tends to put them on the back foot for a bit.

    I bet they didn’t realise they did this.

      I used to have to work with debt collectors and every office I encountered has a “hard cases” guy.

        I assume hard cases here refer to people who aren’t responsive or put ups fight?

        I’d imagine a motivated sovcit could be way more of a pain because they cause active headaches with frivolous filings and wasting time vs just not paying. Though maybe I’m giving them too much credit or debt collectors too little credit.

          Yeah pretty much. Most of the office was tracking people down, arranging for payment or setting up payment plans. Most people just want it off their record with minimal hassle.

          Theres always 1 super patient and stubborn guy who goes after the bigger debts that want to fight it.
