… they will send your wireless earbuds flying into the dirtiest corners of your work area if you’re not careful with the elastic straps.
It’s all about the sound system. No earbuds in the shop.
This is probably the way, but I like the noise cancelling.
Not being able to hear your surroundings (people shouting, sounds of danger, malfunctioning equipment) is pretty dangerous in a shop. You do you, but I wouldn’t let anyone wear earbuds, especially noise cancelling ones in my shop.
I get your point, but its pretty standard to wear hearing protection when operating loud machines no? The buds themselves will block just a bit of the noise and the ANC reduces certain sounds like a running vacuum, but at least mine are nowhere close to being completely soundproof so you still hear just as much as when wearing ear protection. If anything I worry more that they are not as well suited for hearing protection as dedicated ear plugs and I could damage my hearing wearing them…
I think what I really should be doing is wearing disposable ear plugs and then just turning up the volume on the stereo. Earbuds with ANC might be better than nothing, but afaik they aren’t rated for hearing protection.
I’ve totally had that happen to me before :(
That said, I love my honeywell(?) half-face respirator otherwise. It beats a standard face mask in comfort by a mile. I even got some paper N99 filter sheets + reusable holders for them, which works great and makes it so I don’t blow through plastic cartridges.
I now only used the wireless earbuds that connect to each other with a wire. Keeps me from losing them. Plus it’s easier to pull one out and let it dangle instead of finding a place for it.
I need to buy new filters for mine, and get back to wearing it. Been drilling, milling sawing, gluing, cementing and “welding”(HDPE) all sorts of crud lately. PVC, plywood, particle board, steel, aluminum.
I keep my space well ventillated, but just because it doesn’t leave me coughing for days like say … mowing the grass, doesn’t mean its good for me.
Do yourself a favor and order those filters ASAP. This stuff creeps up on you and before you know, you’re wheezing like crazy walking up 3 steps. Or you skip that step and go directly to the cancer stage.
I have been around a few of cases like this and man does it suck to see it happen. I moved shops and now have an easily accessible spot for PPE, literally no effort to grab a mask, protective glasses, whatever. It makes all the difference.
