My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy by Kanye West. The first 6 songs are great but the other songs is a mixed beg. It’s a 7/10 not a 10/10.

Probably anything with the subtitle (Taylor’s Version)

Sometimes they sound different enough to make a difference (regardless if I prefer the original or not), other times they sound exactly the same.

Maybe Taylor Swift just isn’t for me. And I’m someone who has the balls to call her 2020 album “folklore” his favorite album.

Some years ago, a friend recommended me the following albums:

    • Atom Heart Mother
    • Animals
    • The Wall
    • Dark Side of the Moon

I liked some tracks of the last album, but overall none of the albums clicked for me. I am aware they are respected by the wider community, so I guess I didn’t get them.

in my opinion, minus Atom Heart, those are all objectively great albums. But taste is a subjective thing so not liking them makes sense.

Cowboy Carter. There. I said it.

I enjoyed Renaissance, Break My Soul is an absolute banger of a song, there’s nothing comporable or remarkable on Cowboy Carter.

I was a huge, massive, we’re talking tattoos-of-the-bands-logo-on-my-body levels of fan of Avenged Sevenfold before Hail to the King came out.

That album is re-hashed 80s thrash garbage, but everyone loves it. The first 3 hard rock/arena metal albums they made (City of Evil, self-titled, and Nightmare) are one of the best trilogies in heavy music. Then Jimmy passed away, and the band hadn’t been the same since. I’m still a fan of the 2001-2010 A7X, but beyond that, I’ma take a pass.

What do you mean by “your” most overrated album? Obviously for most people “overrated” is just going to be “thing I don’t like but others do”.

Is this thread just an invitation to bitch about disliked music? If so it’s a shit idea for a thread.

On the other hand, if you’re asking what is the most overrated album that we actually own, I would have to say Dark Side of the Moon. I bought it because I kinda like it and felt like I was sort of obligated to buy it when I started collecting vinyl. But I hardly ever listen to it because there are so many albums in my collection that I would prefer to put on most of the time. People hail it as the best album ever made but it just doesn’t have the sort of energy I’m trying to get from listening to music most of the time.

I listened to that so many times on cassette! It and Sgt. Pepper are the reason i feel sad for young people who don’t get to experience the two sides of an album.

Yeah it’s of course a good album, I just rarely actually want to listen to it more than some of the other albums in my collection

Yet here you sit, bitching about music.

Don’t like it? Don’t engage. That’s the beauty of free will. No one is forcing you to come here and be negative.

Where did I bitch about music? I bitched about a thread that invites nothing but negativity. I then offered an answer based on the most generous possible interpretation of OP’s question wherein I gave an example of an album which I fully recognize is objectively good, but which I personally find to be overrated in contrast to the rest of my collection.

Anything is a bit harsh, but I can understand where it comes from. Before Nirvana, rock was hairspray, glitter and spandex. Grunge put us in ripped jeans, flannel and not giving a fuck.

A lot of it is “technically” not great music, and since many bands have taken that grunge sound, improved it and put their own spin on it, listening to them today isn’t very impressive. In fact, I rarely get excited when Nirvana comes on the radio, and I wore a Kurt T-shirt in the 90s!

What is NOT overrated is the impact they made on rock. The whole game changed because of Nirvana, and they definitely deserve credit for that.
