God wanted to give free will to man. Lucifer was adamant that it would go tits up and ruin everything, so he tried to oppose god.

God cast out Lucifer and did it anyway.

Lucifer watched sassily as it did indeed go tits up almost immediately.

Lucifer doesn’t hate man, but pities him. Even if he wanted to, he could never inflict the kind of ingenious horrors on us that we inflict on each other.

Didn’t man gain free will (“knowledge of good & evil”) expressly against god’s wishes by eating from the fruit of the tree in Eden? I seem to remember him being kinda miffed about that.

I think you have it the wrong way around man. In the Genesis myth God forbids touching the tree of knowledge of good and evil, but they do it anyways because of the snake’s rizz. But they are only able to do it because they already have free will at that point.

That’s what I mean, God gave man free will, but expected them to obey and do the ‘right’ thing regardless, even though they don’t have to.

Lucifer immediately proved they would disobey by suggesting they eat the fruit even after being told not to, and it was all downhill from there.

        At least, that’s my interpretation.
